It all began 16 years ago when I was 5 and Shane was a little cute blonde 9 year old. Our families met at Church and well from that day on the teasing, chasing, hide-and-go seek and friendship started.
After many years of being family friends, we both left our home city to completely different places: I went to Cape Town and Shane went to Australia.
Many years went by, and neither of us was aware of God’s big plan that He had brewing. One day Shane decided to send me a message on Facebook which led to a message every single day after that, which ignited a flame in our hearts, a love like no other, an agape love.
We went through dating long distance for 18 months, his phone calls starting with his singing (so-called singing), Skype dates showing me his new magic tricks and a couple of visits during 2011 drew us closer and closer together.
Looking back to our childhood; there was never a dull moment, Shane was always extremely mischievous and playing pranks…. Oh wait nothing has changed! And that is why I love him so, I never have an average, boring and normal day with Shane around! He always makes me so unbelievably happy and loved when he is around.
I am so excited to write this new chapter of our lives together!
It’s an interesting thought really – our story. From the point where I thought I understood what marriage was about, I have always wondered who I would marry. What would she be like? What’s her story and how has life shaped who she is today? Would we get along? Little did I know it would be my friend’s little sister, whom he is very protective over. I had no idea that the sweet innocent little 5 year old girl, I used to play pranks on back in the day, would one day become my wife. Wow! God has a sense of humour!
Firstly he sends me half way around the globe to show me that not one woman in Australia is compatible with me – this was a 4 year lesson. Then just as I’m losing hope he very strategically brings that sweet innocent little 5 year old girl back into my life as a beautiful woman and guess what? She’s interested in me! So we got talking a little bit which grew and grew, along with something inside of my heart. I thought I could play it cool but I couldn’t, this girl just blew my mind. I could see us holding hands, walking on the beach - our toes in the sand. I could see us on the countryside sittin' on the grass layin' side by side – One day she’d be my babe.
I got so excited at the thought of being her man that I stopped walking and started to glide like a lizard on ice. After 893 Facebook messages, 10 465 Whatsapp messages, 12 love letters, an 18 month wait, one 11800 km flight and 1 bunk bed with her brother – I had finally moved back to Cape town. I left my mommy, my daddy and awesome new friends to be with the beautiful girl that drives me crazy. The more time we spent together the more I realized I had found my best friend. I found a girl who loved me for me especially after I decorated Kirstenbosch gardens with vomit on our first romantic picnic together.
As God's plan unfolded Bronwyn and I decided we wanted to “close the knot” and get married. After lots of pray, love, support and 286 photos of rings I found the right one.
Now engaged, I’m delighted at the direction we are heading in and I’m beyond happy with how God has answered the questions because the answers and the girl I’m marrying is so much more than what I could have imagined.THE CUP IS OVERFLOWING
